
JULIE FUTRELL, PhD
Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Futrell has been licensed to practice psychology since 2015 and is licensed in Texas, California, and New York. Additionally, she holds the PsyPact credential, allowing her to provide telehealth services in 38 additional states. Dr. Futrell has extensive experience as a generalist practitioner and psychodiagnostician, with clinical specializations in personality pathology, women’s mental health, and obsessional disorders. Since 2022, Dr. Futrell has focused her time on forensic psychological evaluations and strategic consulting, initially working in civil and family law, and has now expanded her work to include criminal forensic assessments and public safety evaluations.

Dr. Futrell possesses a master’s degree in health education with a focus on women’s health from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree and PhD in clinical psychology from Duquesne University. Her clinical background spans inpatient, outpatient, and residential treatment settings as well as leadership roles for a national behavioral health company where she supervised over 200 clinicians. In these roles, she has conducted comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, risk assessments, capacity evaluations, cognitive assessments, fitness for duty evaluations, and has provided treatment to individuals with severe mental illness, trauma-related conditions, substance use disorders, anxiety-related conditions, and mood disorders. In addition to her clinical and forensic work, she has taught undergraduate and graduate psychology as an Adjunct Professor.
Dr. Futrell received advanced training in medical and psychiatric differential diagnosis and violence and risk assessment at Nassau University Medical Center, where she completed a specialty rotation in hospital Consultation and Liaison and provided assessment and treatment on a male, inpatient forensic ward. She completed advanced post-doctoral training in neurocognitive disorders, assessment of decision-making capacity, and diagnosis and treatment of medically complex patients with psychiatric co-morbidity.

Dr. Futrell’s specializations in severe personality pathology and differential diagnosis and her extensive and varied experience across multiple clinical domains have allowed her to develop an interdisciplinary expertise that provides a unique and insightful perspective on psycho-legal questions. She is currently available to conduct civil and criminal forensic evaluations and assessments, testify in expert matters, and provide public safety evaluations. She is an active member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts as well as the American Society of Trial Consultants. Her CV is available upon request.​​
