EMILY VAN PELT

Ph.D., LPC-S, RPT-S

Licensed Professional Counselor

Dr. Van Pelt is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S). She has been practicing in the field of mental health since 2007, and has been a supervisor for other counselors and play therapists since 2011. Dr. Van Pelt specializes in counseling and play therapy for children, adolescents, and their families, with specific areas of expertise including those who may be experiencing the effects of divorce, litigation-related issues, anxiety, depression, ASD and AD/HD. Dr. Van Pelt has also been trained in Parent Facilitation and Parent Coordination, and utilizes these skills specifically through her work with families navigating divorce. Dr. Van Pelt currently operates her own independent private practice, with offices located in North Dallas and Frisco. 

Dr. Van Pelt is committed to providing a respectful, safe and supportive environment where coping skills and strategies are developed specifically tailored to meet each individuals desired goals, regardless of age. She strives to ensure that each child, adolescent or parent is genuinely heard, and works with each individual to provide a high-level of compassionate care, especially during times that may be confusing, traumatizing or otherwise may feel like times of chaos. Dr. Van Pelt also prides herself on guiding parents through the entire therapeutic process such that they are empowered to continue promoting healthy parenting habits for their children long after leaving her office. 

Originally from Iowa, Dr. Van Pelt attended the University of Iowa to earn her B.A. in Psychology. After graduating, she relocated to Texas to attend the University of North Texas, where she earned her M.Ed. in Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education, both specializing in play therapy. Dr. Van Pelt has also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas and has performed numerous speaking engagements throughout the community on various subjects, including parenting and child development. In her free time, Dr. Van Pelt enjoys spending time with her family and experiencing all that the DFW area has to offer.
